Ancillary Justice (Imperial Radch, #1)
Interesting space opera novel, compelling and with great characters. Parts of it don't quite gel for me, but compared to the competition it's a very well written book. There's an interesting idea at the center of the book about AI and multiply embodied minds that was good, but could have been brilliant with a bit more exploration. I really liked the main character Breq, and her relationships with the people she met. OTOH the whole book has a total of like 5 characters which in the grand tradition of Space Opera, isn't very much. Also the plot relies on an unlikely re-coincidence of characters 20 years later, which she sort of passes off as mystical fate but clearly was just the author having written herself into a corner. Minor quibbles though, overall it's an entertaining book with some good ideas.Read 2013-12-02 to 2014-07-09
