City

A lovely and meditative series of short stories, about evolution and culture and man's fundamental nature. Presages some popular modern sci-fi themes, particularly The Singularity. The prose is a bit dated, not to mention the science (animals walking on the surface of Jupiter!) but that just lends to the charm, and the themes of the book carry through. It reminds me in some ways of Cloud Atlas, the series of interlocking stories, it would be lovely to see a similar film treatment.
